Here are some of the common questions we've been asked about our swap kits - Please reach out to us if these do not answer your question(s)!
1. Transmission Tunnel
- Q: Do I need to clearance the transmission tunnel? Aka hammer it?
- A: No, with our kit, you will be able to leave it in original condition. However, if you plan to pull the transmission off while the engine is the car, adding some space could be helpful.
2. Mounting the Transmission Crossmember
-
Q: Does the transmission mount offset bracket bolt to the OEM mount then into the frame to make up for the fs5r30 mount being further back than stock?
-
A: Yeap, exactly! Uses the two factory chassis holes and a bolt/nut combo to make up for the new rear offset!
3. Fan Shroud
-
Q: Can I run the OEM RB Fan Shroud?
- A: No, unfortunately, the RB is much longer than the SR or KA and there won't be room.
4. Radiator
-
Q: Can I use my OEM SR Radiator?
- A: No, you will need to convert to a "KA style" because the inlet and return on the RB are all on the RH side of the vehicle now.
5. Radiator Fans & Room
- Q: What fans would you recommend?
-
A: This depends on how you're running your set up --
- If you use the OEM radiator location, you will need to convert to electronic "push" fans (SPAL, Mishimoto, etc. and make sure they are push fan designed).
- If you use a tucked radiator (Chase Bays, etc.) you can run an electronic fan shroud (Misimoto being one of the easiest) in the intended location.
6. Usage in an S13
- Q: Is there anything preventing using these parts in an S13? I was under the impression that the swap using the factory parts was about as plug and play as you can get for 13/14/15.
- A: It should work, but I haven’t been able to test it. I only have an s14 and s15 to test with. Because of that, I didn’t want to promise something I was never able to confirm!
7. Oil Pan Recommendation
-
Q: What pan should I use?
-
A: You can use any RWD oil pan, my preference is a cast OEM AWD pan fabricated to remove the AWD bits with an extended sump. There are aftermarket pans that will also work.
8. Oil pan ground clearance
- Q: How low will my oil pan hang?
- A: Unless you opt for a custom pan, expect the OEM pan to hang .5-.75 inches lower than the subframe, sway bar and tension rods.
9. Nismo Power Brace
- Q: Can I use the Nismo Power Brace (tension rod brace)?
- A: Yeap! Unless you plan to run a wild oil pan, this will not be an issue.
10. Strut Bar
- Q: Will the strut bar hit the RB?
-
A: No! The mounts put the engine much lower than how the SR / KA would be. We've tested Nismo and Blitz. All clear ;-)
11. Driveshaft
- Q: What driveshaft can I use?
-
A: Custom. These are easy to order though Driveshaft Shop or a custom shop. Measurements are dependent on your differential set up.
12. Intake Manifold
- Q: Can I use an OEM RB25 intake manifold?
- A: No, the OEM style of wrapping over the top of the valve covers will not work unless you cut your hood. Forward facing manifold is ideal for power and it'll look better!
13. Brake Booster
-
Q: Any issues with the OEM brake booster?
-
A: Nope, won't even come close. Your turbo and downpipe set up will need to be fabricated accordingly, though.
